ERP: everything you need to know to manage your business

Today there are many ERP systems with all kinds of features. Discover what an ERP is and what you need to know to choose the right one.

ERP: everything you need to know to manage your business

You have probably wondered at some point what ERP means and what features an ERP has. ERP stands for «Enterprise Resource Planning». The simplest way to define it would be as the integration of all the operations a company carries out. For example: human resources, logistics, manufacturing, accounting, purchasing… It brings all of these processes together on a single platform.

Thanks to its modular system, it lets you integrate different modules. In the case of StockAgile, you will find several modules: analytics, contacts, inventory, stores, wholesale, manufacturing and invoicing. Ideal for managing stock, your different stores and much more, all from a single platform.

There are different types of ERP:

By installation
  • On-premise: the ERP in question is installed within the company itself. It is a little more limited and expensive, depending on the resources you have as a company and on how well it can be adapted.

  • In the cloud: the servers are hosted in the cloud. This means it is compatible with any device, such as a computer, tablet or screen. With an internet connection, your data is stored in the cloud, so even if you have a poor connection or a device failure, your information stays safe.

At StockAgile we are committed to a cloud-based ERP, because we believe it adapts better and has fewer installation issues, since there are none.

It is designed for small, medium and large companies alike.

On the market you will find a wide variety of ERPs that are more or less focused on the different modules. It is worth looking at the various options available depending on your specific needs.

By development
  • Open source: this means we can modify it to our liking with the help of professionals. The downside is having the time and a well-prepared team to develop the ERP’s features. It is generally used by large companies, since they have custom-built ERPs.

  • Proprietary (closed source): it does not allow access to the software’s code, meaning that only the ERP’s developers can modify it. It offers general features tailored to the type of customer it targets. For SMEs or small businesses, these are usually the best options.

By capabilities
  • Vertical ERP: designed for specific industries. As a result, they know perfectly well the needs of the sector they have specialized in.
  • Horizontal ERP: designed so that any company can use them.

In our case, we are an ERP dedicated to managing stock. We have a Point of Sale, several modules and synchronization with your online store.
