Frequently asked questions

What is real cost (landed cost) and how is it calculated?

It's what a unit truly costs you landed in your warehouse: the supplier's price plus the freight and duties for the delivery, spread across every unit. For example, a Blue Sweater at 9,80 € price, with 1,90 € of allocated freight and 0,70 € of duties, has a real cost of 12,40 €. You choose how to spread the freight — by unit, value, volume or weight — and the system assigns each variant its proportional share.

What's the difference between weighted average cost (WAC) and FIFO?

Weighted average cost (WAC) recalculates a single average cost every time new goods arrive, weighting existing stock against the new receipt: it's stable and simple to read in day-to-day margin. FIFO values each outbound movement at the cost of the oldest units, layer by layer. Stockagile works with weighted average cost, which updates when each receipt is confirmed and is the one that values your inventory.

When does the stock's weighted average cost update?

When each receiving delivery note is confirmed, not at month-end. The system takes the existing stock (quantity × current cost) and weights it against the new receipt (quantity × real delivery cost, freight and duties included). The new WAC is available immediately in reports and on the product record, by product and by variant.

Does it work with suppliers who invoice me in another currency?

Yes. You set the currency and exchange rate on each order: prices show in the supplier's currency, but the weighted average cost and landed cost are calculated in your base currency. The applied exchange rate is saved on the delivery note, so historical costs stay reproducible even if the rate changes later.

Does real cost affect my inventory valuation?

Yes. The weighted average cost that updates when each receipt is confirmed is exactly the same cost the system uses to value your stock. What you see in your inventory and margin reports always reflects the most recent real cost — freight and duties — not the supplier's list price.

Can I see what price I paid each supplier on previous deliveries?

Yes. Every supplier's price on every delivery note is recorded in the history, even after you change the rate later. You can review it from the supplier record or from the delivery note to audit a past delivery or prepare a terms negotiation with the real data in hand.
